Our client, a leading stock-listed property company, was aiming to modernize both its rental process and its property management, which were fraught with the following issues: information about current customer inquiries and interest in the property portfolio were neither up-to-date nor readily available for everyone within the company. There was no unified process to record customer requirements, and often they could not be queried against the existing properties.
The task of Open Web Technology was to create a central hub for customer and property data. It should enable easy access to all data across devices and assist employees along each step of the rental process. Moreover, the solution had to be designed to easily accommodate more client applications and to allow for further digitalization of company processes.
1. Co-creation workshops: defining how to transform the rental process
Together with the client, we defined the main criteria for the app as follows:
- Simplicity and ease of usage
- User-friendliness (scalability and evolution)
- Transparency, clear view of customer, property and inquiry data
Based on these requirements and an analysis of the customer value chain and we created user journeys and mockups for an internal app which would satisfy the needs of its various stakeholders (internal and external).
2. Blueprint in collaboration with client core team
With our support, representatives of each employee role captured their detailed requirements in a product backlog. An interactive prototype allowed the client to experience the app and to verify its handling and user-friendliness first-hand.
3. Implementation and rollout
Using agile development, we delivered, at the end of each sprint, a fully functional app to the client so that they could test its functionalities and add any change requests to the product backlog.
The OpenWT project team accompanied the client on their digitalization journey, carrying out all necessary tasks, from design, front-end and back-end development to delivery.
We created a hybrid app (for iPad and Microsoft Surface Book), supported by a cloud-based backend and an admin web interface to access and manage users. The authentication was simplified thanks to the use of the Swisscom Passeport.
The client has now a mobile, decentralized 360° view of its customer and property data, with a full access and monitoring of the running rental inquiries. This has greatly enhanced the rental process.
Our client can now capture their customer requirements and keep them in the system, to ensure that their customer is matched with the property that fits his need best.
By using cutting-edge technologies such as hybrid apps and a cloud backend, we have set the foundation for digitalization of further process steps at our client.
